Criminal Confession

I want you, more than anything. I am in love with you

So please paint a pretty portrait with me?

Not a desolate landscape of remorse,

not now, not ever.

Let the peaks of our story gleam like the warming touch of a kiss in the snow,

like the fruits of the first harvest.

Write a better story with me,

no whispered promises turned to haunting laments.

A speculative narrative, where I see heaven in your eyes

and not the hell I’ve caused you.

Write with me until the moon falls into her place,

in the sky, in my bed.

In our world of dusk and dawn,

don’t replace me with the chill of solitude

You are my shining star, my sun,

a celestial body of warmth and belonging.

You belong with me; I belong with you

Let me show you all the things I’d do to keep you,

to love you better, to love you tender

To replace all the tears in your eyes with stars

and leave all the scars behind.

Let me love you one last time,

let me safeguard the connection we nurtured.

Write with me one last time,

and this time I’ll get it right

I’ll proofread every chapter of our manuscript.

This is where you belong, not in a distant place,

in the reflection of my eyes,

the eyes of the one who can’t stop loving you.

Not in the mirror. The reflection is shattered,

and its falling glass echoes our shared past.

I kept all the pieces, eternally tethered to the lessons.

A profound truth, fragments of my yearning.

I may have broken your heart, but you stole mine.

Stop!

This is a robbery.
